About Two Sleeps Away
Hi, I'm Jonathan. I'm a dad of two primary-school kids, living in Brighton, on Adelaide's southern beaches.
Like a lot of families, we've been looking for weekends away that don't need a long drive, a big budget or a week of planning. We want somewhere close, with proper toilets, a bit of shade and something for the kids to do. The answer is usually on an official park or council page somewhere, but it's spread across a dozen tabs and rarely says what matters to a parent.
The name comes from the way kids count down to anything good: in sleeps. Two sleeps away is a weekend — close enough to plan on a Thursday, far enough to feel like a holiday.
Two Sleeps Away pulls that together. Each guide starts close to home, with Adelaide and the Fleurieu first, and the plan is to cover the same kind of weekend from other Australian cities over time.
How the guides are made
- Official sources first. Facilities, fees, dog rules and fire restrictions are taken from park, council or operator pages and linked so you can check them yourself.
- Dated. Every guide shows when it was last checked. If something isn't confirmed by an official source, it goes in a clearly labelled "needs verification" list instead of being stated as fact.
- First-hand where possible. When we've actually been somewhere, I'll say so and tell you how it went. When we haven't, I won't pretend we have.
- Research help. I use software tools to help gather and cross-check official information. I read and edit every page before it's published.
